At UMR, for whatever reason they had no carriage control on tape channel 12. If you were a clever (and unpopular) coder you could skip to channel 12 an accomplish the same thing.

Programming languages in the shop had library overrides to make that a carriage control (another channel) but assembler programs could do it directly.
