Wasn't sure how to interpret your statement, but just in case you overlooked it, TAP is a special magnetic tape format used by SimH emulation suite: http://simh.trailing-edge.com/docs/simh_magtape.pdf and I guess Nova RDOS(?) might have structured magtapes in a particular way; you might need to hunt down some tools to extract the files as complete units.
