Doing some quick research, the governing patent seems to be https://www.google.com/patents/US5295247
filed in 1992, where the term IDE is used exclusively. Further, PC Magazine has ads for IDE interface motherboards in early 1989. Neither mentions ATA. If desired, I'll keep digging. --Chuck
