I have several that work fine and one that is a primary disk on TITAN (a
11/73+ system) using the RQDX3.
It's dog-slow compared to the ESDI disk and controller in the 11/83+
(PMI) but to be honest firing up a lot of memory as cache gets the
system to reasonable performance levels. Still a bit slow.

Well, you can fit VMS onto an R(M,A, )80 drive with no problem, the
mighty 11/730 is living proof.
RD54's though are a lot less power hungry.
