Hi all, as you can see in the TODO list [1], there is plenty I wanted to do before the CDK 1.0 release, but I am sure that won't happen. The 'standard' module won't go in as stable, but is close. And for all the open bugs (about 50), they are not all that scary.
Because I won't make my own quality requirement by myself, and since the community is growing, input on this side (Stefan/Rajarshi aside) his been minimal. I know that everyone has to focus on the research, and so do I; we still do not have funding for project management, we never had. All project management is done on a voluntary basis, remember that! Anyway, we've been long enough in freeze for the stable modules + standard, that I will release CDK 1.0 next Sunday, April 22th. I had hoped to do that earlier (before the ACS meeting), and had the hope that another four weeks would help, but those only added functionality. Therefore, CDK 1.0 will be released on April 22th Seriously, it is as stable as ever. The last week before release, we should spend time on getting JavaDoc right, possibly a small bug fix here and there, but the time for that has really passed now. The CDK 1.0 release is an important milestone in the CDK project. Please also take this moment to consider contributing to the project in ways other than maintaining the code you wrote yourself (oh, yeah, hardly anyone is doing that...). Really, that are many ways you can contribute, even in this last week. Some ideas: - run a spell checker against the JavaDoc - sign up as CDK News reviewer or editor - write something for CDK News - be release manager - be module maintainer - ... In advance of the actual CDK 1.0 release, thanx very much to all that contributed big *and* small ! It was a great 7 years of open source chemoinformatics development! (*) Egon *) Hey, that actually sounds like I am stepping down... Well, it *is* time for a new generation to step up indeed. I won't leave the project, but being CDK News editor, CDK release manager, CDK code developer is a bit much for doing outside office hours. I feel that I have clearly enough made my point for open source chemoinformatics, and it is time for something else... which will very likely involve the CDK, but likely more as user only... I was hoping in the past few years, that the transition would go smoothly, and have been trying to get people interested in various emails, including this one; however, being humans, we wait for the catastrophe and only after that we're shocked and start doing something about it. So, yeah, I'm forced to make this drastic announcement: CDK 1.0 will be the last CDK release *I* will make. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cologne University Bioinformatics Center (CUBIC) Blog: http://chem-bla-ics.blogspot.com/ GPG: 1024D/D6336BA6 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
