Unless thing's have changes drastically, MS Works files can only be opened by MS Works. There are several in Scotland (although not in Orkney :) ). Take a look at the Distributor's page (somewhat out of date unfortunately) at <http://distribution.openoffice.org/cdrom/index.html>. Select "Western Europe" in the drop-down, and scroll to the United Kingdom section. Unfortunately, only a few have their actual location listed (I note there's on in Elgin, probably still a bit far for you :) ), but the first one in the list is actually one of the more reliable distributors...
