This is an old discussion but I wanted to reply to it because it needs to be
said.

I've been a Community Distributor for years and I've always used only the
OOo sanctioned ISO to distribute the CDs. I prefer to do that for several
reasons but the primary one is so that the users get the genuine article as
it was intended to be distributed on CD.

During the last year and a half I've become increasingly frustrated and
disappointed with the lack of organization of the whole distribution area of
OpenOffice.org, primarily because I have to wait around and dig around to
find a current ISO when a new version of OpenOffice.org is released. I am
always late to get the next version to my site and out to users who buy my
computers and want a CD with the OEM install in case they need to reinstall
it. It also makes it difficult to market OOo because I am always a version
behind because I can't locate an English ISO.

Which brings me to the next point. When I do find an ISO of a current
version, it is almost always in another language and only the older ones are
in English. Not that I have anything against other languages but I am in the
United States and am trying to market OOo against the great American
behemoth Microsoft, which is a Herculean task in and of itself.

My customers either speak English or Spanish. Few speak German, Italian or
other languages. I need an installer that is in English.

Although the discussion below concludes that the OOo 2.2 ISO contains an
English installer, It doesn't mean it is usable in this distribution. Yes,
it is there and it works. The problem is that the autorun welcome page and
subsequent menus are all in German. It is necessary to navigate through them
in order to locate and run the English installer. If the user does not read
German and does not understand the text on the splash and menu pages, they
are not going to be able to reach the link to the English version easily.
They will be completely lost and have no idea what to do next.

So, although you are correct that the English installer does exist on the
ISOs, you are completely wrong about it being useful or even practical to
use in an English speaking country. The ISO is nicely laid out, but the
download was completely worthless to me as a Community Distributor in the
US.

Unfortunately, the only way to download an English ISO is with BitTorrent,
and that sort of thing is both time consuming and impractical for me. It
will take days for me to download this image and then I will still have to
burn the disks, label them, test them and package them before I can
distribute the first one. I don't have days to tie up a PC, unable to turn
it off or reboot it, while waiting for the download to complete, either. I
am a system builder and computer reseller who preloads OpenOffice.org on new
computers I build and distributes them to both local customers and online.

I go to considerable expense to promote this software in my area.
Unfortunately, it is possible that by the time I finish downloading this
torrent the next version will be released and I will be back to square one.

The entire distribution project needs to be re-evaluated and overhauled,
including the Community Distributor sign up process. I am aware they have
made progress during the last few months but it was too long in coming and
it still has a long way to go.

I know you are all volunteers but hey, so am I. I don't have to distribute
this. I can just as easily sell another copy of Microsoft Office. But I
prefer not to.

Wrong - download PrOOo-Box DVD and you get up to date genuine installers
in German/French/English.
