Joerg and others may be interested in a document that tries to
describe the linux SCSI subsystem at the start of the 2.4 series
of kernels:

This document is also in postscript (add a ".ps" extension) and
pdf format (add a ".pdf" extension).
One addition that may have an impact on cdrecord is the device
pseudo file system ("devfs"). It is unclear at this stage if
any distributions will support this feature in their initial
lk 2.4 series offerings.
