So far, I have never _seen_ a Alpha Linux box although I have been
loogin on one ;-) There is at least one sparc/linux box in our
research institute.

The cdrecord large file problem is neither redhat nor Alpha specific.
It appears on all systems that use an unmodified glibc-2.1.3
It is caused by the fact that glibc-2.1.3 announdces itself as
large file compliant but i not because it hides fseeko/ftello
I started with Paul Eggert's large file autoconf approach
which was not a good idea for glibc-2.1.3
