OK. Not that I understand (yet) how the above output makes that
statement. The HP 9200i is 8/4/something. The above media is CD-RW.

The output above says "speed low: 4 speed high: 8", is that the media or
the drive? Doesn't "ATIP info from disk:" indicate the media? If its the
media then the write *was* attempted at 4 which is within the
capabilities of the drive and supposedly the media.

Have tried two other brands of CD-R media (both 80 min), at least one
said "16x" on the wrapper long since discarded. Media which I have used
before but can't swear was used in this drive. Will try again tonight
with some Memorex (probably 12x, but old enough that was the fastest
CD-R available at the time). And have some really old blue Verbatim
media to try, from back in the days when 4x was exotic. Also have not
yet tried the blanks HP included in the box.
