Here is the additional output you requested, the CD-RW is a RICOH, printed with blue silkscreen ink, reading (from the top):
CD-RW COMPACT DISC REWRITABLE RICOH RICOH COMPANY, LTD. MADE IN JAPAN TYPE 74 650MB I have an even dozen of them, bought at the same time as a 100 count stack of standard CD-R media from the RICOH online store. The serial numbers all vary in the last five digits, but the start series is: R2197302xxxxx. The same behaviour occurs on every CD-RW I have (currently only RICOH). I am searching for another brand to try that and will post once I have procured and tested. $ cdrecord dev=1,1,0 -speed=4 -blank fast -vv Cdrecord 2.01a15 (i686-pc-cygwin) Copyright (C) 1995-2003 Jörg Schilling TOC Type: 1 = CD-ROM scsidev: '1,1,0' scsibus: 1 target: 1 lun: 0 Using libscg version 'schily-0.7' Using libscg transport code version 'schily-scsi-wnt.c-1.29' atapi: -1 Device type : Removable CD-ROM Version : 0 Response Format: 2 Capabilities : Vendor_info : '_NEC ' Identifikation : 'CD-RW NR-9300A ' Revision : '105B' Device seems to be: Generic mmc CD-RW.
