I'm stumped :( Since you've updated the firmware, I assume that you can reboot into Windows or put the drive in a Windows machine... have you tried the Windows BitSetting utility from BTC <http://www.drvupdate.com/download.htm>? The official Windows utility sends 20 zero bytes as data along with the command, but that doesn't seem to be needed for me.
