I'm trying to figure out where to locate the firmware info.  I've 
checked /var/log/messages, dmesg output and /proc, but no luck. 
Suggestions?

Further info on this I/O magic drive.  I noted that I did not have 
scsi-ide set for the hdd device, corrected that and now cdrecord and 
cdrecord-prodvd see the drive:
