Unfortunately, as of now, time is not the same.
Example with ISO if 5259 MB
defect management engaged:   writing takes  21min
defect management disengaged:  writing takes  9min

w/o defect management I save 12min
        
In any case (w/ or w/o defect management) I do an md5sum at the end
(it takes 9min).

I only use re-writable media.
