I was testing an extended fix, based on exporting a fixpath variant from libcwd, and calling it on a few extra places, but stumbled on 2 gdbserver bugs (Fixed both, commited one fix one upstream, and I'll hold the other for a while, to see if I can come up with a better solution), and tripped on the same code gen bug commented on cwd.c. I'm now working on understanding the root cause of it, and either fix it, or work around it again. Please give me a few more days on this.
