Gene, I apologize for the pricing. I complained to the publisher about the pricing, but the publisher said the price is determined by industry standards. On-demand published books are generally more expensive than the books published by traditional publishers because the latter print in bulk. The figure I remember reading a long time ago is that the first printing of books that are sure-fire marketing successes is 300,000 copies. When printers bulk-print as much as 300,000 copies, the cost is minimal on per copy basis.
But books such as mine, which are printed on demand, i.e., only when there is an order for them, are expensive to print. That's the explanation I got, and I'm sorry I can't do anything about the high cost. I hope you will buy it anyway. I took a peek at the book my wife is reading, "All the Light We Cannot See," and I came away convinced that style-wise I have much to learn. God, I wish I could write as well as the author, Anthony Doerr. But each day I become more convinced that my book has value - hopefully it will be deemed priceless someday - because I keep receiving encouraging words from people who know me. They, like me, feel there was a need for a book such as mine because Filipinos have very, very short memories and that was why the historical revisionism that's been going on in the Philippines and in the Diaspora has been getting some traction. People are starting to believe that the Marcos years were the good old days. I hope others will write about the Marcos years because, like the Holocaust, which Jews all over the world constantly write about, we Filipinos must assure that nothing like the Marcos years will ever happen again. Chay PS Bankaw: I'm not going to vote for Trump, in fact I will work against him if he is the GOP standard bearer because he is a racist. But he and I think the same way about American manufacturing. We both believe that manufacturing must come back from China. We both have our eyes zeroed in on China. We are in a trade war with China. The sooner our politicians realize this, the sooner we will fire back. China keeps firing at us and our response has been zilch.
