in /etc/environment add lines like:
export http_proxy="http://proxysrv:3128/";
export https_proxy="http://proxysrv:3128/";
export ftp_proxy="http://proxysrv:3128/";
Yum has it's own config: /etc/yum.conf, you have to add the following
line, near the end of the file:
proxy=http://proxysrv:3128
