Try a software-RAID.

indeed, a quick lookup of that board says its ICH7R 'intel matrix'
raid, which is indeed pseudo-raid, implemented in the BIOS and drivers.

agreed..turn off the mobo raid(since that's a desktop chipset anyways)
and use the linux md raid.
