Alan Bartlett of ELRepo built a 3.0.x kernel for EL5. http://elrepo.org/people/ajb/devel/kernel-ml/el5/ and is asking people to test. Please note that this is strictly for *testing* purposes. It may or may not boot, but you can certainly give it a try and see if your hardware works.
