Billy Owens, currently a sports agent, was considered to be the second best prep player of 1988, behind Alonzo Mourning. He played for the U.S. national team in the 1990 FIBA World Championship, winning the bronze medal. As a 6' 9" small forward/shooting guard from Syracuse University, he was selected by the Sacramento Kings in the 1991 NBA Draft. Owens spent ten seasons with the Warriors, Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings, Seattle Supersonics, Philadelphia 76ers, and Detroit Pistons. Tamika Maria Raymond is an Assistant Coach for the women's basketball team at the University of Kansas. Raymond played professional basketball in the WNBA for six seasons. During the 2002 WNBA Draft, the Minnesota Lynx selected Raymond as the sixth overall pick. She concluded her playing career in the WNBA with the Connecticut Sun. During these trips, they conduct clinics, visit schools and speak to youth about the importance of education, positive health practices, and respect for diversity. The programs aid the youth in discovering how success in athletics can be translated into the development of life skills and achievement in the classroom. Another goal of the program is to bring people together through sports while encouraging sports development at a grassroots level. The successful partnership between the NBA and the State Department has sent more than 35 current and former NBA and WNBA athletes and coaches out as Sports Envoys to fifteen different countries.
