Okies..this is not going to be easy, but here's what ya gotta do.
Remove all the info from that new hard disk, I'm hoping you did not put
anything on it.
You will be adjusting hard drive partitions etc. so you may want to back up
stuff if you think you might make a boo boo.
What's happening, is that the new hard disk has a ..gosh waht's it called..a
Primary partition set up, so Windows is going to the first hard disk, and
finding a Primary Partition and naming that C:
THen windows goes to the second harddisk..finds a Primary Partition, and
calls that D:.
Then it finds the Extended Partition on the C: disk and calls that E:.
Windows reads the disks Primary Partitions first, then Extended Partitions
after.
That's how it works. I think on Win2K you can tell it what to do exactly,
and switch drive letters etc. with the Disk Administrator (but I'm not sure
and have never been adventurous to try this...though I suppose I could take
a trip by the neighbours and test it while she's baking cookies or
something..;-) )
What you want to do , is to make the partition on the New hard disk an
Extended Partition. That will make it appear AFTER the D: drive..as E:.
To do that, you need to use FDISK.
You need to look at that **new harddrive** with FDISK , and REMOVE the
Primary Partition.
THen you need to add an EXTENDED partition, and create a logical drive on
that partition.
Now changes made with FDISK are NOT REVERSIBLE..and you will LOSE ALL DATA.
So you must ensure you are modifying the correct hard disk.
You really can't make a mistake if you keep your head on, since one hard
drive will have a C: and D: volume..and the other will just have one volume.
The new drive should be Harddisk 1, the old should be Harddisk 0.
But be careful. If you need step by step help, lemme know
^_^

I have just bought a new hard disk. When put it into my computer it called
itself D: This would be okay, except that I already had a hard drive which
was partitioned into C: (with windows and system stuff) and D: (which had
everything else). Because the new drive has now called itself D:, my old D:
is now E:. This means that all my shortcuts don't work and many program
settings will have to be changed from D: to E:. I can't seem to find any way
to change the letters of the drives. Is it possible and if so then how?
I am running a PC with Win98.
your help in this problem would be much appreciated,
Cedric Wooding
