It sounds like I'm up there in this group (34).  The only time a birthday
really affected me in that way was when I turned 31.  Not 30, but 31.  I'm
not exactly sure why, but I think it had to do with the delusion that when I
turned 30 I was still in my 20's.  As if it was still possible to go back.
But 31, hey, you're fully entrenched in your 30's and there's no escape.
I'm more freaked out about other people's ages, like my sister who's 18 (I
still think of her as being about 10), and my brother who is about to turn
forty.  Forty!

I tend to play on that with people (esp since I gave up caring about my age
years ago), so I always make it sounds as bad as possible...

When someone is 25, they're a quarter of a century
When they're 30, they're entering their 4th decade on this planet
When they're 33, they're a third of a century
etc. etc. etc.

Doesn't half wind up the age conscious people...
