Of course being American made they'll probably explode or go 50 feet and the
battery will die or some other rather comical ailment.

There are also several dual mode type vehicles I know Honda and Toyota have
one but I think Ford might as well, maybe more. Those seem to have a lot of
promise, also I've heard for us in CA, that driving an alt power source
vehicle or even a dual mode one allows single occupant vehicles to drive in
the carpool lane.

Actually Ford has a couple Fuel Cell cars in road tests now, as well as a
couple other technologies they are working on. (Ford Focus FCV and the Ford
P2000) Range is about 100 miles.
