Take a look into the Disney All-Star Music, Movies, Sports, or Pop Century
Resorts. They are by far the cheapest on property and are really just as
nice as any of the others. The rooms are a bit smaller, but who goes to
Disney World to stay in their room? I just checked out Disney World's
website and got a price of $606 for three nights, but this is part of a
"package" and includes admission to the theme parks. (I'd image it would be
much cheaper if you aren't planning on going to the park all three days)
Since you are on property, you get free use of the transportation system to
any of the other hotels or resorts. There are probably cheaper rooms off of
Disney property, but I'd thought I'd give this a mention in case anyone was
interested.

(having said all that I'm jealous that I won't be able to make it this
year... :-(

Disney's about ~250/night!

To do this right we'd need to get a list of eligible hotels and vote on 'em?
If we really, really had out s^&t together, we could block book the rooms
and try and get a discount?

Yay/nay?

I am actually staying with a friend who lives in the area. 15 minute drive
(which for a Los Angeles native ain't bad). Since I am paying for the
conference and plane fare myself, this helps a lot.

The hotel is EXTREMELY steep. However, there are a lot of other hotels in
the actual convention area which is only about 5 - 10 minutes from WDW.
Some of them are more reasonable. For hubby's conference a few years ago,
we stayed at the Sheraton World Resort near Sea World (which is right
between the convention center and disney), it was fine, nice grounds, pools
and decent rooms. I think the price there was $150 a night.

Anything Disney is going to be expensive.

First,

Is Matt Brown [[EMAIL PROTECTED]] still lurking on this list?

A while back he introduced himself and had this to say:

"What is the role of the Community Manager and why should you care?

The primary goal of the Community Manager and the Designer and Developer
Marketing organization to which I report is to build, grow, and nurture an
enthusiastic designer and developer community. A strong developer and
designer community is a community that feels empowered, respected, heard
and involved. Our mission is to provide the mechanisms to educate, create
awareness, inform, and capture feedback that will drive our company towards
superior products and programs for the developer and designer community. "

I feel that this represents exactly what Michael and Judith strive for and
achieve every day, and they don't even work for MM. So, I sure hope MM
eventually realizes what a contribution they have made and continue to make.

Second,
Where is everyone staying or planning to stay? I haven't decided yet, the
hotel where the Conference is, is a bit steep, but I don't want to stay out
in no-man's land either. I would prefer to stay within shouting distance of
my fellow muffin eaters! <grin> ..... has anyone booked anything yet? Or
even thought about it?
