The same guy who invented the crank-powered radio (not to be confused with
other radio cranks like Howard Stern et al.) is also developing a pair of
boots that powers batteries and mobiles devices by the kinetic energy in
walking.

Just as an aside, I saw an invention on tv last night that recharged mobile
phone by converting kinetic energy generated as you move, into electrical
energy.

Cool.

Subject: Power generation

Anyone read this month's Wired article on future Power generation and
distribution (and it doesn't even focus on nuclear fusion)
http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/9.07/juice.html
<http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/9.07/juice.html>

Lotsa' microturbines for all, although the energy web concept is little on
the marketing-fluffy side. I thought it was interesting that the article
also suggested that connecting an unexpected power source to the national
grid can knock out sections of power distribution. Could be a new form of
terrorist attack...

Ben B, do you work for a refinery or power company, I couldn't remember? If
the latter, just wondering what you might have thought of it?
