Too funny. This EXACT thing (the potato) was on Mythbusters last night on
the Discovery Channel. They tried jamming a potato into the exhaust and it
shot right out on engine start. They then stuffed it about 2 feet up the
tailpipe, and again it shot right out.

They also put several items (chlorine bleach, sugar, mothballs) into a gas
tank and ran an engine off of it. The only thing to cause actual damage was
the bleach, although it did not stop the engine immediately. The bleach,
left overnight in the tank, caused serious oxidation to the bottom of the
tank, which would have gotten rust in the engine over time.

The mothballs actually seemed to make the engine run smoother at high
octane.

It's a great show, if you have never checked it out. The hosts are very
intelligent, but slightly crazy, and I would love to have their jobs...

I can be far nastier that most people realize. Most of the time though
its too much like work.

My favourite method is hitting the person in the pocket book. Consider
this technique. get a large potato and stuff it up the exhaust pipe of
the car of your target until the potato cannot be seen. The car will
run for about 100 to 200 yards, probably less, and then stall out
because of the back pressure. The person takes it to the mechanic who
naturally will have no trouble starting the car - no more back
pressure. After paying the mechanic the victim starts to drive home,
and the car stalls out again. This will keep happening as the person
trys to find a remedy.  Many thousands of dollars later the cause may
be discovered.

This is better than mothballs in the gas tank.
