But whether it's the media telling people what they want or the people
coming the conclusion themselves the restaurants are only trying to give
what they want (or what they think they want). ;^)
I feel the same way at the movie theater - they've got that 2 gallon
"medium" there - I think in that case it's more trying to hide the $8 price
behind a giant cup (which costs only a few cents more to fill). It's a
common fast food fact: the paper cup costs more than the soda syrup and
water used to fill it. So double the size of the cup and the price and
you've increased your profit margin considerably.
The same logic doesn't work for food items, but for drinks the mark up is
unbelievable.

You know, I ate at Taco John's this weekend. I don't eat a lot of fast
food, but every once in a while I'll go there. I went there a lot
while pregnant. I craved it.
Anyway, while I was pregnant, they introduced the "EZ Combos" - which
were f'ing huge! The drink for the small was something like 20 ounces.
And, that was the small. I haven't eaten there in the last 16 months,
and this time, my husband got a combo and the drink was back down to a
12 ounce. I thought it was interesting how they'd jumped on the
supersize bandwagon late, and had to immediately jump back off.
Hm....how much is it what people want and how much of it is what the
media tells people that they want?
