For those interested in etymology...
it's one of a number of swear words that have their root in the word "con" which refers broadly (no pun intended) to the female sex organ. The closest thing literally in English might be "pussy". ...goes right back to the middle ages at least!
One who is "con" means one who plays the fool or is played for a fool...the connection to a woman's sex organ being - over what else do men most commonly play the fool!
In modern usage if some thing is "con" it is "crazy" or "nuts"! "C'est con!"
Being a kind of generic insult, connard can take on different meanings depending on the tone and context, I'd say...
