I have finally began developing a site for my family to post pictures,
news and such.. Since my family is scattered all around the US, it is a
way for everyone to stay up on what's new in the family.

Just wondering if anyone else has developed a Family site and what areas
have you found useful or desired?

Here are some areas I have done so far:

1. Family News (with various categories and ability to reply to each
posting)
2. Member Listing (basic member listing with a member picture)
3. Address Book (personal address book to keep up with)
4. Photos (Photo albums and categories for pictures)
5. Online Journal (multiple journals private or public to keep up with
your own thoughts)
** Journals can be seen by everyone or just you, depends on if it is
marked private or public.
6. Online Calendar (share in birthdays, anniversaries, and even have
items parked private so only you see them)
7. Wish Lists (ability to create your own wish list but have a wish list
marked private so you can keep up with
those small items to get family members for holidays/birthdays. Goal is
the public wish list is what you would like to have and everyone can see
it.

I also have some online games (mostly flash or JS based).

I have considered an Inventory System for insurance purposes to keep up
with but not sure it would be used must.
Also thought of Family History sorted Chronological for family events
and such.

All areas does have email notifications on updates and if you have
viewed an area or not.

What are other peoples thoughts?

Thanks!
