Exactly, going after somebody who threw a beverage at one and punching them is 
not self defense, it is retaliation.  One does not have are right to revenge.  
Self defense is action to prevent harm from oneself by another's action.  

If the fan was threatening to throw a brick at the player, maybe then there 
would be some justice for self defense.  Of course, ducking and removing 
oneself from the line of fire would be a much more effective defense. 

I believe the players involved should be appropiatly punhished.  And so should 
the fans.  All parties invloved are responsible.  There is some room for 
argument that Ron Artest's punshishment was overly harsh.
