The PSP-in-the-US announcement has been made. It looks like only the "Value Pack" version will be available (for $250). The "value extras" aren't all that impressive to me. The first million sold will also receive "Spiderman II" on UMD (pretty neat) - I think they should make that (or some geek-fest movie) a standard pack-in - would make the extra $50 for the "value pack" much more palatable.
More at IGN: http://psp.ign.com/ My biggest complaint is the games list: it'll thrill some, but leaves me cold: nearly two thirds of the games are straight sports or racing titles. So far there isn't a single title I really, really want. The new GTA (based in Liberty City) could be great and "Death Jr." looks like a hoot - but there's no definite word on when either will be released. But if the availability of movies (and the software to rip movies to Memory stick) happens then it might be worth it as a portable DVD player alternative. But where are the games? Where are the games that made Sony great? Where's wireless deathmatch with Ratchet and Clank? Where's a Final Fantasy or Kingdom Hearts Game ("Chain of Memories" on the GBA is really good if you like that kind of thing so maybe "Metal Gear Acid" will be as well)? There's very little variety represented here, I think.
