If someone else is footing the bill, take a cab. The Metro is great for
getting around- except if you have luggage. With luggage, Metro is a giant
pain in the ass, especially because you would need to switch lines along the
way. Schlepping your stuff around Metro Center at rush hour is no fun at
all, especially if the escalator you need happens to be broken and you have
to take the stairs. It can make you feel like a human pinball.

And that's just the trip to the hotel. On the trip out, you would need to
take the Red line into downtown and switch lines. The kicker is that you are
now in the crush of people leaving the city Friday afternoon, which means
you are standing on the train from the time you switch (probably at Metro
Center) for 20-30 minutes. For a few bucks, I would much rather sit
comfortably in a cab. Better yet, find someone to split a cab with if you
can coordinate it- half the cost and you have company for the ride!
