Do you mean you were updating the software, or downloading email messages?

If downloading email messages, I have seen this caused by a couple of different 
issues.
Usually caused by really huge email with lots-o-attachments. Patience or a web 
interface is the only cure here.
Sometimes caused by beaucoup packet loss from cable modem issues.
