To get an unlocked IIS? ;^) Some people do like hosting multiple sites using IIS. But seriously - the server does offer a lot that XP doesn't - especially Windows 2003. Also most MS "server" software won't install on XP (although it could run on it if allowed). SQL Server, Exchange, etc all require a Server OS to run. I don't believe that the OS is locked however since I've got applications right now that open many more than 10 network threads (both in and out) - so I think it's an application-level thing.
