After a bit more testing, I found that my Treo 300 does not support <style media="handheld">.
That is sad because I wanted to use xhtml and css to display certain content based on the device. Now, I think I will just fall back on dynamically displaying portions of content based on device type. My plan is to check the cgi.http_accept variable for the existence of "vnd.wap." I will also assume that these devices will also accept "text/html". Am I way off-base by making these assumptions? My Treo is 3-4 years old and it accepts both of these types, so I'm pretty confident that most newer phones also support, at least, these same types. Now, I just need to determine if I should create a totally separate area for mobile and duplicate some code or just use in-line conditional logic to "turn on/off" portions of content... Hmmm, more testing.
