Well, yeah there is always the stupid human factor. But fusion is still an
improvement because there is no room with nuclear waste in it. Fusion does not
produce waste like fission does; there are no spent fuel rods or other
troublesome material. The only radiated material is the fusion chamber itself.
So, yeah if somebody managed to cause the entire plant to conventionally (not
atomically) blow up somehow, one could have a problem. But even this is less
troublesome then a fission plant since the nuclear materials should not be
around for thousands of years. And I don't think you would get the giant cloud
of radioactive dust unless they manage some kind of incredible explosion that
pulverizes the entire plant.

Bad if you get covered in the stuff, but the survivors grandchildren have a
chance of coming back.

....No, it's usually the stupid stuff like:
....
....We stored the box of oily rags by the fuse box because those fuses get
....oily. Unfortunately that was the same room we also stored the
....hydrogen and oxygen tanks in which happened to be right next to the
....room we stored the nuclear waste in.
....
....The lightning stike shorted the fuse box which started a fire which
....blew up the hydrogen which spread radioactive dust over most of
....Marseilles. Coulda been worse though.
