You can also bell train your dog. We did that with ours and it worked great. Basically, you hang a large jingle bell on a cord from the door that you'll use to take him/her out. Hang it at dog nose height. Every time you take the dog out, ring the bell (show the dog that you're ringing it, too). I think it took about a week and our dog learned that if she rang the bell, she got to go out.
I don't think she ever had an accident in her crate, though, either. So, she might have just been exceptionally tuned in about that stuff. On 7/6/05, Michael T.
