Let's hope they did since the London police announced that they have
had over 250 suspected-terrorists-in-the-subway incidents since 7/7
and in seven of them they almost shot someone in the head (not
counting the one where they did shoot someone in the head).

After any incident that could induce public panic, the government's
official statements are always formulated to reduce public panic. This
usually means releasing "facts" that are later proven false. The facts
released always designed to convince the public that whatever happened
will not affect them. This goes for all governments.

Bottom line is, you can't believe the early reports.
