Of course this is only one of the many issues facing our (and other)
fisheries.

If global warming does indeed affect ocean currents as many models predict
the fishing industry will be effectively destroyed for example. Even if not
we still have issues with reduced yields, line- and drag-rights and over
predation.

I agree however that the issues are generally more regional that the
presidential administration would normally tackle. This definitely seems
more of a legislative rather than executive issue.

(However recent administrations, this one arguably more than others, have
stuck their big-old-federal noses in many other local issues (gay marriage,
medical cannabis, Shaivo, etc). Why not expect at least a statement of
purpose from them?)

In general I would not look to the president to make change in this area.
It would be nice, but not necessary, to him make more statements concerning
the issue (or, more generally, broader environmental issues).

I'm getting a little tired of this administration's tendency to pull back
from environmental issues with the caveat "we need to learn more". Arsenic
level's in drinking water, global warming, urban air-pollution, and this.

Bush has, apparently, been able to comprehend the complexities of sexual
orientation, middle-eastern politics, stem cell research and many other
complex issues to take firm stands. When will he do the same for the
environment?
