Perfect example of community financed pork and profits (when there are
some) going to a privately held corp.

Safeco Field in Seattle.

Beautiful place. Fantastic for watching baseball, when they built
this'n they built it right.

Here's the issue. It was voted DOWN, not once, but THREE times by the
city of Seattle (and King county) and after that the Washington State
Legislature approved a "loan" against state sales tax (statewide, not
just in King County), food & beverage taxes in King County and a sale
of special items (license plates, etc) to finance the park...

The King County Council agreed to the package and construction was started.

And all of this happened AGAINST the wishes of the voting public, who
defeated the measure EVERY TIME it was put on a ballot.

$517M total cost, bankrolled on $393M in public funds, collected from
taxes paid by Washington residents and by King County in particular,
and they have the nerve to call it "Safeco" (because Safeco Insurance
'bought' the naming rights for $40M)

Publicly funded sports arenas are a crock.
