There's already a "Live HTTP Headers" plug-in for Firefox (I use it 
daily) - I wonder if something like a "Zone Alarm" for Firefox or 
something would sniff out XMLHttpRequest() activity and pop up a quick 
message if a site is trying to use it, how it's being triggered, and 
giving you the option of always allowing it, and keeping a log of what's 
passed through the request.  So, if you're on Gmaps, etc. you can give 
it a free pass.

In the same ways popups that are triggered with onLoad and onUnload 
events are usually blocked by default, triggering XMLHttpRequest() with 
OnKeyPress or the like would be an automatic default block.

It's probably not entirely feasible, but could be an interesting 
experiment... Hmm...
