ermmm... IIRC the reserve and national guard currently make up the
bulk of those deployed to Iraq/Afghanistan, no?

there was a news blurb I saw today that authorized 10,000 additional
National Guard troops to be mobilized and sent to each of the 4
hurricane states bringing the total to ~21000...

seems it is not enough.

Also heard last night from my Cousin Cathy who lives in Metarie (the
town lies to the west of the 17th street canal -- literally where the
water spilled over...). She evacuated to Baton Rouge and is now headed
to a ranch in Texas with friends (14 + dogs + cats + birds). She said
that local channels were reporting a "shoot looters on site" order.
Dunno if that is actually going on, but it seems things are definitely
going to get worse...
