Why would someone scope out a doctor and then be part of a conspiracy to draw that doctor to an island. What's special about the doctor. He had a miracle healing which is either spiritual or psychic. Probably a bunch of the people are psychics and some dark force/agency has gathered them to the island for some reason. The facility looks like it belongs to the cold war era when they did a lot of psychic research. Either that or some of them are former secret agents and the island is the original location of "the village". Does that make Hurley number 6? :)
