Actually, it all began with a tribe in Africa that worshipped these special 
golden mice. The tradition was to defend these mice with their lives from 
the lions and other 'big cats'. To slay a lion was a rite of manhood which 
also involved eating the cat. I was there and helped in one such ritual and 
partook of the feast after. At the feast I was given my stick and blessed 
with the tribes motto:
"Save a mouse, eat a pussy"
