I explained it once to someone like this - Imagine that the police were going to clean up your area, they would go all out to catch all the criminals possible.
Now thats a good thing, and most people would agree with it, but what if for every criminal caught the police knocked on a random number of doors and shot whoever answered in the face, man woman or child. Would you still support it if it was the only obvious way to get rid of the criminals? Or would you say that the price was too high?
