Well I can only offer my opinion.. I'm normally a CF programmer. We
had a new project to be designed in Flex and as a backend we chose to
use Java.. Before this I've had little experience in Java. I can tell
you that CF is much easier to learn, much easier to connect to DBs as
CF manages the connection, with Java you have to manage it.. opening
the connection, and closing the connection after returning.
You deal a lot with Objects, and classes, having to create getters and
setters for each of the variables in the Object.. sure we use Eclipse
and can easily select "Create Getters and Setters" but nothing beats
the ease of CF.
Also our team as a whole are CF programmers, so anyone who takes on a
support role will have to learn Java and learn it well.
One page I worked on builds a printable page from a Java object..
Without knowing any Java it took me about 3 days to get it.. defining
iterators to iterate over the arraylist of objects.. man CF would have
taken a couple hours...
I hope you can convince your higher-ups to stick with CF..
Thats all I can offer..
I hope it's a while before I have to start another Java project.. Flex
2 integrates with CF better than Flex 1.5 so I hope I dont have to
mess with Java period..
