Seriously though, kids feelings or not, if you hate the cats that much, PLEASE just take them to the pound and get your kids a hamster.
Otherwise, why are you and your wife letting the cats AND the kids run your lives? You're the parent ... Make an executive decision. You guys have to live with each other forever, the cats will die in 8-15 years. Least that is my opinion.
