How to be the best client ever!(*)

1. Sorta define kinda what you want. In general terms. Tell them you
want AJAX. Do not tell them what for, isn't that the designer's job?
Also RSS. RSS must be available. Again, you don't know what it is for,
let the designer figure out how to implement it for you!

2. Take specific recommendations from your chosen provider and ignore
them. Perhaps put the spec. document under the compost heap, in the
shredder or in a hamster cage.

3. Ask for time to think about it. Do not specify what you're going to
be thinking about or answer any e-mails requesting a decision until...

4. 1 week before the deadline, call the designer guy (or gal, let's be
fair) and tell them you're ready to commit to the bid, insist that due
to a pressing ad campaign you've got coming up on late night
television the site must be launched on the original deadline.

5. revise copy. Do not spell check.

6. two days before release, change the color scheme, 'cause you'd like
to see it in red. later the same day, change the color scheme back.

7. Revise copy. Do not spell check.

8. ask your provider if they built in translation capabilities.

9. type in the wrong URL and call the designer when it doesn't work.

10. withhold payment until rush charges and "extra" or "hidden"
charges (like those for changing the color scheme at the last minute)
are dropped from the bill.

11. pay in trade.

*Each of these (with the exception of 2 - I do not specifically know
if the 'misplaced' spec. ended up in hamster cage/compost
heap/shredded) has happened with a client at some point in my career.
Sometimes clients like to order a la carte, sometimes one from Column
A and two from Column B.
