>"Starting trouble" isn't illegal.

True. And demanding a public accounting of Halliburton contracts for example
could be construed as "starting trouble." So let me rephrase. It strikes me as
bullying.

>This, in my eyes, is a viable form of dissent against the failure that our
>immigration system has become.

Viable, hmmph. Maybe. I don't think it is any way to act, myself.

>I like the fact that instead of going after the immigrants they are going
>after the people that are attempting to hire them.

These people? If so I missed it. I do agree that going after empl;oyers if
better strategy.

>BTW, publicly traded, and public, are two different things, as you well
>know. If a share holder comes in and asks for that information, well, it
>would depend on the terms of the shares, which are essentially contracts
>between you and the company, are those rights given to you in that contract?

Well, yeah, that was why I changed my hypothetical to shareholders, as I was
thinking about trespassing. But actually the change is unnecessary, come to
think of it. We don't know who owns that land in San Diego so tresspassing may
not apply there either.

The publicly traded corporation is required to provide certain information to
the SEC and to anyone it is selling its stock to. That doesn't mean that the
front desk receptionist has to stop answering the phone to deal with the
demands of my peace activists. If they are insistent enough, they can be hauled
off for disturbing the peace. Maybe that is the term I was looking for above.

As for the question at the end there - a share =ownership though in practice if
you own one of 100,000 shares, ::cough::: that doesn't get you very far in
terms of say-so. You are however entitled to an accounting. Just (afaik) not
necessarily at time of your own choosing.
