I can tell you that after participating in more organized combat sports,
there is defiantly a rush involved in it. It's a huge adrenalin rush
stepping into a ring, especially if your opponent is an unknown quantity.

The difference between what I do and what they do, is that I'm in there to
win a match, if my opponent gets knocked out then it's one less person that
I may have to deal with in later rounds, but we're not out to deliberately
injure anyone.

That was my first reaction... but then again if they're getting something
out of it who am I to stop them.

I mean I personally see no reason to do this... I've been in too many
physical confrontations as an adult to enjoy or need them in any way. But
at the same time I can see how somebody that's never been a part of one
might get a rush from the idea - perhaps even an addictive rush.

In the end if they "enjoy" it who cares? If you're a good fighter then you
get hurt less - is that really any different than any "extreme sport"? If
you're a crappy snowboarder/skateboarder/rock climber/cliff diver/base
jumper/whatever you'll end up with as many (or potentially even worse)
injuries.

Getting the crap beaten out of you by a warehouse full geeks has to be, at
the very least, a cheaper option.
